Czech: some great vibes in Prague

2011.07.13 – Budapest (HG) โ€“ Prague (CZ)

Jenny had not slept well during the night as she was afraid of missing our 9:25am train to Prague. We packed our bags and went down to have our hotel breakfast. At the reception, we paid for our stay and requested a taxi. We were at the train station in plenty of time. Although the train was already on its platform 6, we experienced a one hour delay in leaving the station. It appeared that they had to change the train engine. The 1st class train on this โ€œECโ€ type train was disappointing as it had no central table for playing cards nor did it have any power outlet to recharge our electronic equipment (netbook, iPhone, kindle, etc). The only nice thing was that our carriage was close to the restaurant-carriage but it was extremely hot in there. Along the way, we had some pleasant conversation with a couple from Boston. Upon our arrival at Pragueโ€™s train station, we took a taxi to our hotel. As we were tired from the day of travel, we had our evening meal nearby our hotel.

We grabbed some pastries at a Tesco convenience store for our breakfast. We spent much of the day visiting Pragueโ€™s downtown sites including the Old Town square, Prague astronomical clock and the old Jewish Ghetto. We took a long walk and had plenty of laughs on a loop between two of Pragueโ€™s bridges over the Vltava river. Along the way, we joined a river cruise as a rest from our walk. Late afternoon, we took the metro to the Vysehrad Castle for a short visit. We had our evening meal at a bistro in that area.

We grabbed once again some pastries at Tesco for our breakfast. We spent much of day visiting the Prague Castle and its grounds. Victoria and Jessica enjoyed themselves enormously while modelling middle-age attire. It was also hilarious to see Jenny almost inadvertently participate in a changing of the guard parade. We ended the delightful day at a very nice Thai restaurant. We returned to our hotel with the help of the tram.
