It’s been just over 6 weeks since our hasty return home from our Northern Europe cycling trip. I have recovered well from the medical emergency I experienced in Latvia. One part of our travel insurance – MHS International – promptly reimbursed our medical expenses. However, we are still in dispute with Global Excel, which handles claims for Medoc (now Belair Direct Travel) regarding the reimbursement of our out-of-pocket expenses.
As part of our original cycling trip itinerary, we had planned a stop-over in London on our way back home. The idea was to visit Jessica and Rob – the newlyweds from last year’s wedding in Italy – and to celebrate my birthday with them.
Now that the travel itch has returned, we spontaneously booked return airfare to England for a 3-week trip, giving us the opportunity to complete some aspects of our originally planned cycling adventure.
Although, we’ve resumed riding the tandem, we decided not to embark on another cycling trip in England, having already done so in 2022. Instead, we opted for a backpacking-style itinerary, exploring cities we had not visited during our 2015 trip to England.
Surprisingly, our round-trip airfare from Ottawa to London was significantly cheaper than the one-way flight we took from Riga, Latvia back in June.
