Early in the fall I had started to talk to Jenny about going south this winter as we had not been there for a number of years. The winters have been much more enjoyable these past few years since Jenny has discovered cross-country skiing and even did some staking. Nonetheless, we agreed that we deserved a trip by ourselves as Victoria was almost 17 years old and this vacation would allow her to try out her skills at university life. As a cycling destination, Cuba remained a top choice. I quickly zeroed in on a destination on the most eastern part of Cuba. We bought tickets from Montreal to Santiago de Cuba late December. We learned that Kaitlin’s parents, were also heading south to Ecuador during the same time in search of a potential retirement home.
